5 positive changes I made to my practice 5️⃣
One of my favourite sayings is that small changes make a big difference.
I’m always trying to streamline and simplify my work so I have more time for my life outside of work.
Here are 5 small changes I made to my practice in 2025.
Discovery calls on Monday lunchtime
I block out 2 hours for discovery calls on Monday lunchtime, between 12pm - 2pm, before I head off to the clinic where I work 3pm - 8pm.
Some weeks I don’t have any calls scheduled so then I have some extra time which I might use for admin, writing or tidying.
I find that most people can find time for a call at lunchtime and it feels like a good start to my week.
It also means that if someone wants to have their first appointment quite soon, I can often fit them into my Tuesday or Wednesday morning.Order remedies from Helios on Tuesdays
Several years ago I decided to stop trying to keep all the remedies I need in stock (I don’t want to use a machine to make remedies).
In 2022 I started to order remedies via Helios to be paid for by my patients. This worked well for some people, but it took a lot of explaining for people to be clear about the process.
A few months ago I increased my fees to ‘include all remedies’ which seems to be more straight forward, and involves less explaining.
I order remedies from Helios on the phone before their cut off time which is 3pm.
I find that getting on the phone by 2.15pm makes sure that I will get through to someone in time for my remedies to be posted to me the same day.
The Helios package normally arrives the following day.Kit refill bottles
I find that the Helios (or Ainsworths) kit bottles are a perfect size to prescribe a month’s supply of a 30c (or maybe 200c) remedy.
They are also cost effective – £2.95 (Helios) or £3.60 (Ainsworths).
I am planning to keep a few in stock, so they are always to hand - Sepia and Nux Vomica especially.iPad Air with magnetic pencil
For a couple of years I’ve used an iPad to write all my notes using an Apple pencil. However, my iPad was quite old, and the pencil needed charging frequently.
I took advantage of the Apple Store deal with Unidays after my son started Sixth Form, and got a new iPad Air with a magnetic pencil that charges automatically.
This has been life-changing!
Using an iPad instead of paper to write my notes has made my work so much more streamlined. Plus, no storage issues!Arc browser
In September I started using Arc browser and I like it very much. There are lots of cool things about Arc.
You can create spaces where you save tabs and you can organise them into folders. There’s also the option of a split screen which lets you view two websites side by side - super useful.
It offers the option of using AI for search and I have found this very useful.
You can import your bookmarks and passwords from your previous browser.
One of the best things is that it blocks most adverts and trackers. This makes me very happy.
These five things may not seem all that ground-breaking but combined, they have simplified and streamlined my practice.
How about you?
What are the small changes you’ve made to your practice this year?
