Happy New Year!
This is the first newsletter in over a month, as I took a complete break from work over the holidays so I could enjoy quality time with family and friends.
We all had full on colds in the lead up to Christmas, and were all on the Narayani Cold remedy plus Homeobotanicals.
Luckily none of us had the flu which also seems to be about.
I hope that you are starting the new year in good health and that your practice is picking up as people get started with their healthy new year resolutions.
Plan your Radiant Business!
A new year gift for you!
My wonderful assistant Suzy has made a beautiful planning sheet for you.
You can download it and print it for yourself here.
January Planner
We will share a new one with you for every month.
The February planner will be with you on Friday 31st January.
My word of the year
My word for this year is Boundaries.
When you love your work, it doesn't always feel like work, but that doesn't mean it isn't. :-)
One of the things that doesn't feel like work for me is this newsletter. I genuinely love writing it and look forward to it every two weeks.
I feel like I'm giving something up, but I'm going to be very strict with myself, and only send one per month this year, on the last Friday of every month (except for this one, of course!)
This feels slightly risky, as I don't currently have an online space to promote my courses and webinars, but I'm going to trust that it will all work out.
One reason I've decided to reduce the number of newsletters is so that I have more time for the people who've enrolled on my courses.
My practice is as busy as ever, and there really are only a certain number of hours in the day. :-)
I've promised myself I'll finish my work-day earlier on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and have two Fridays per month when I don't work at all.
Radiant Business 2020
Six homeopaths started the Radiant Business School this week, and next week sees the beginning of Meaningful Marketing with 17 homeopaths.
Also, something new, I will have a regular business focused webinar, on the theme of money for homeopaths.
The Radiant Business work is something that I'm passionate about, which is why my word of the year is Boundaries. :-)
Homeopathy Webinars 2020
I have some new topic-based homeopathy webinars planned, on the topics of:
period health, perimenopause, anxiety + depression, respiratory disease.
There's also going to be the long-promised 80/20 Remedies webinar.
I use 20% of my remedies, 80% of the time. This webinar will cover the remedies that make up the 20%.
How to build a niche
While I consider myself to be a good 'all round' homeopath, and I like to treat a variety of people with different ailments, my work went to a different level when I decided to specialise in Women's Health.
This topic is still quite broad, but it covers many things that I very much enjoy treating.
Many of the things I treat regularly are ailments that I struggled with myself. Immunity, hayfever, acne, thrush, UTI, miscarriage.
I've used the experiences I had to write blogs that connect with women looking for help with these things.
There are many other homeopaths with a niche around the pill, or fertility.
I broadened mine out to women's health as this feels more authentic to me.
I have a sort of side-niche of fatigue and stress and I am interested in technological overload/mininalism/decluttering.
This means that everything I share on blogs and newsletters to my homeopathy clients is something that genuinely interests me and is something that I might even be a bit nerdy about. :-)
One of the best books I read at the end of 2019 was This is Marketing by Seth Godin.
It is also great as an audio book.
He talks about the difference between 'generic' and 'specific'.
How to find your own voice
This is going to sound counter-intuitive, but please trust me on this.
If you use social media, delete their apps from your phone.
Log out and change your password to something hard to remember.
Unfollow other homeopaths on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and newsletters too.
Why?
Because the way to authentic marketing is to find your own confidence and your own voice.
This is harder if you are following other homeopaths and comparing yourself to them.
Instead, I encourage you to take all the time you used to spend on social media and use it to read newsletters and blog articles. Read or listen to books. Or listen to podcasts.
Whatever it is you are interested in, go on a deep dive.
Examples could be: Adults with ADHD, addiction, depression, anxiety, menopause, sleep, eating disorders.
Whatever it is, there are books about it. What's in your local library? Can you build up a personal collection from your local second-hand bookshop or Amazon sellers?
Start collecting articles from Huffington Post, the Guardian online, Medium.
Add them to your Evernote or make a bookmark folder on your browser, or a reading list.
Follow the people who wrote the articles you find. If they wrote a book, consider reading it.
If you don't know what you are interested in yet, that's ok, turn off all the noise and allow your mind to wander instead.
Interested in a few different topics?
That's ok too.
What is most important is that you feel that they resonate with you.
When you have that feeling, you are going to be in a better place to market what you do.
Brain Food
A quiz, a great reading list, plus why you should leave your headphones at home.
1. The Four Tendencies Quiz by Gretchen Rubin
I took this quiz last week and discovered I'm an 'Rebel'! Oh no! At first I thought I would be an Obliger, but now I realise that that is just me suppressing my rebellious self in order to avoid rejection.
There are Rebels, Obligers, Upholders and Questioners. Which one are you?
2. 20 Books to Help You Breakthrough by the DO Lectures
This time last year I was at the Newsletters workshop by the DO Lectures. I attended this workshop twice, and was one of the few 'entrepreneurs' at it each time I went. I love the whole attitude of DO, and David Hieatt's book list has some gems on it. I've only read two of them so far. :-)
3. Leave Your Headphones at Home by Man Repeller
I love, love, love Man Repeller blog! It often makes me laugh, but also can hit certain topics right on the nail. This article falls into this category. It cites How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell. Another book to go on my list.
That’s all from me for now.
Thank you for reading.
Wishing you a wonderful January.
