Hi there,
I hope you are doing well, and your practice is too.
This is a short extra email with some ideas for how to make it through the seemingly endless sales and discounts this week. 🤦🏼♀️
For some, the only answer is to not participate in the sales cycle at all.
For me, there are practical reasons to take part, and I try to not beat myself up about that.
Here’s my list of 4 things I do to survive Black Friday.
I buy things I would have bought anyway.
For example, Neal’s Yard shower gel, deodorant, soap and a new pot of arnica salve. I’m already a consultant which already gives me 25% off everything and the sale discounts on top make it sensible to stock up. If you are interested in being a consultant, now is as good a time as any. (Link to find out more.)I upgrade on a subscription for something I am already using.
For example, an offer to pay annually on an app that I currently pay for monthly. I’ve done this a few times and made a good saving.I watch for deals for things that are already on my wishlist.
For example, a new winter duvet in the John Lewis sale. All through the year I keep lists of things I would like to purchase, replace or upgrade on a list in my Things app. Then I revisit it to see if there is a way I can save on any of them. I try to not buy something just on impulse. Only if it’s on my wishlist.Unsubscribe from things.
Do you, like me, sign up for newsletters to get advance notice of their sales? As your inbox starts to overflow, it’s a great time to unsubscribe from lists that no longer serve you. Every year, I do this.
Having these guidelines to work from gives me some structure to rely on when Black Friday becomes overwhelming.
There have been years when I completely switched off, only to realise later that I missed a good opportunity to buy something.
This way I can take advantage of the sales without feeling the pressure to buy all the things.
Do you have any tips or tactics that you use to make the most of this sales season?
Please do reply and let me know.
As always, thanks for reading.
I’ll be back in your in-box next week with the December newsletter.
