Happy Friday!
I can’t believe it’s July, but somehow it is.
If you are new to this newsletter, welcome.
If you are a long-term reader, hi to you too, and thanks for being here.
This week’s newsletter has arrived early as it’s the last day to sign up for Radiant Business School July 2020, plus I wanted you to be able to download the July planner before the weekend.
I’m keeping the doors open for Radiant Business School until 1 pm today.
If you like joining things last minute, this button is for you. :-)
Write it down, make it happen!
Why do I send a monthly planner?
I’ve always found pen and paper helpful.
I love ticking things off when they are done.
I always try not to over-plan, but I still do.
I tell myself it’s ok, it’s because I’m an optimist.
The YRB planner has space to write three main goals and four things to do.
Goals are small projects that need some focus. Ideally, something that will take a couple of blocks of around 2-3 hours. e.g. Write a new blog post.
To-dos are things that are important but need less focused time. e.g. Send out requests for testimonials.
If you use the YRB planner to help you set goals and get things done in your practice, I would love to hear some feedback or even a photo.
The Four Tendencies
The last couple of newsletters I’ve written about the Four Tendencies according to Gretchen Rubin, and how it could be useful to understand the different character styles when working with clients.
Today I want to talk about the Four Tendencies when it comes to practice-building.
Obligers
According to Gretchen Rubin, Obliger character types have a tendency to sacrifice themselves to others. They can meet external deadlines or responsibilities but can find it hard to say no.
If you are an Obliger, you might find it hard to balance time for your practice if you have other responsibilities.
You might also find it hard to complete projects that you know would be helpful to build your practice, as you don’t have to do them for anyone except yourself.
Upholders
According to Gretchen Rubin, Upholders like to know what is expected of them. They want to avoid making mistakes and need to understand what the rules are.
If you are an Upholder, you might find it hard to ‘put yourself out there’ as you could be fearful of ‘breaking the rules’.
You might want to avoid doing anything that doesn’t seem to be ‘the done thing’.
Questioners
According to Gretchen Rubin, Questioners value data, information and facts. They like to have time to ask questions before they make any decisions.
If you are a Questioner, you might find it hard to choose how to market yourself.
Your need for information can lead to ‘analysis paralysis’ where you avoid taking action until you feel absolutely sure of what you are doing.
Rebels
According to Gretchen Rubin, Rebel types value choice, freedom and identity. They like to go with the flow and do things when they feel inspired.
These are the practitioners who appear to be fearless. They don’t have any shortage of ideas and love to invent new ways of doing things.
If you are a Rebel, you might be happy to try different ways of marketing yourself, but you might struggle with being consistent.
On the Radiant Business School course, I see all types, perhaps with slightly more obligers and questioners overall.
I’ve been trying to adapt my teaching style for everyone.
For Obligers, I offer accountability, giving checklists and two weekly webinars where we all check-in.
For Upholders, I offer reassurance that it’s safe to try new things. Look at all these other homeopaths who are doing these things! (Safety in numbers)
With Questioners, I give information with as much confidence and conviction as I can. At the end of the day, it’s up to them whether they take action.
As for Rebels. Well, I’m a Rebel and it takes one to know one. You can’t make a Rebel do anything unless they feel like it. They will join, leave, drop off, come back, try another course and consider something else, then maybe come back and do my course again. :-)
I don’t really mind what type of person does my course, as I’ve had Obligers, Upholders, Questioners and Rebels all tell me how much they get out of it.
If the course isn’t for you, or it’s not the right time, that’s totally fine by me.
The doors close at 1pm today.
The last one for 2020 will start on Monday 28th September.
This week’s links
Here are a few things that caught my eye this week.
10 lessons from Seth Godin. Anything Seth Godin says is worth a read. I love what he has to say about the dip.
Beautiful washi tape stickers via Papermash, my go-to online cards and stationery store.
The infinite scroll. A very good article about Instagram, via The Guardian.
Inspiring quotes for when you are feeling stressed.
This week’s just trust me.
Here’s the link again to download your monthly planner for July with these very inspiring words by Michelle Obama.
“Always stay true to yourself and never let what anyone else says distract you from your goals.”
I chose this quote way back in January because I wanted to be organised for the year, and now I see it on the planner I think it’s perfect for this month. :-)
Have a lovely weekend,
Tracy
P.S. The monthly paid subscription is just £7 has a webinar included, and you can subscribe here.
