Organ Support and Structured Prescribing 📘
There are lots of prescribing methods in homeopathy and a lot of debate about the pros and cons of each of them.
I believe there’s no right or wrong when it comes to methods, but each of us needs to find and use a strategy that works for our patients.
Structured prescribing principles
My approach to structured prescribing has been influenced by my teachers at CHE, and three teachers I’ve learned from since leaving college: Hilary Fairclough, Ton Jansen and Karen Allen.
Reading ‘Triad Prescribing’ by Hilary Fairclough was one of the best things I ever did for my practice.
The basic principles of Triad Prescribing outlined in her book are to prescribe remedies based on the acute layer, the chronic layer and a related miasm.
Ton Jansen's Homeopathy Detox Therapy method has a different type of structure, and I have especially learned from his thinking about using 'Opening Remedies' and 'Balancing Remedies'.
Karen Allen in the US, teaches extensively about organ support and sarcodes as a strategy to repair the endocrine system.
I've found that using a structured approach to prescribing is helpful in my practice as I see a lot of cases with drug and symptom layers.
Low potency organ support is also very helpful.
The principle of a Triad can be adapted in a variety of ways:
Acute + Chronic + Nosode
Organ Support + Chronic + Nosode
Organ Support + Sarcode + Constitutional
Detox + Acute + Nosode
The method can be adapted to each case in order to:
support organs and systems of the body
prescribe on emotional or physical aetiology
strengthen the constitution with nosodes
A good working knowledge of remedy relationships can be helpful when using remedies alongside each other.
In my view nosodes and sarcodes are essential to get to the roots of chronic disease.
They shouldn't only be used as a last resort.
The benefits of structured prescribing
Structured prescribing makes it so much easier to make decisions about remedies.
We are no longer dependent on finding 'the right remedy'.
Three remedies acting in harmony mean that your patients see results more quickly.
They also like the simplicity and are very interested in the structure when it is explained to them.
