Hi, how are you?
I hope your June is going well so far.
With half-term being one week later than usual, I can’t quite believe it’s only five weeks and 2 days until my son breaks up for the summer holidays.
This could be why I find myself needing to get a bit of a ‘wiggle on’ with a few things.
If, like me, you need to focus down on what’s left of this month, you might like to download the June planner to help you commit to your goals and to-dos.
Just common sense
This is the quote on the June planner:
“Common sense is seeing things as they are; and doing things as they ought to be.”
Harriet Beecher Stowe
I may not have mentioned this before, but I select all the quotes for the year in the previous December.
This gives Eloise plenty of time to create the planners and it also gives me some inspiration as I write the newsletters and plan the Instagram posts.
Each December I think of topics I want to embrace in my business mindset and then I search for the quotes.
(I also keep a file with notes on quotes I may want to use, and I dip into that too.)
As the year goes by, I find that the monthly quotes always speak to me.
Common sense is something that I was always told to use when I was growing up.
“Use your common sense!” were words I often heard from both my parents.
It’s not a phrase we hear so much nowadays, but I feel it’s just as relevant.
Perhaps, like me, you might find yourself ‘overthinking’ things at times.
I feel this year has left many of us with residual ‘fight or flight’ energy.
Friends and clients are all telling me they feel less grounded than they used to.
It’s no coincidence that meditation, breath work, and yoga have become so mainstream.
This last week I’ve been very grateful to get back to studio yoga classes, and I’m feeling the benefits already.
I have really needed to focus on keeping myself steady the last couple of months.
Feet on the ground.
Seeing things as they are.
Being mindful of the process, not just the outcome.
Remembering to use my common sense.
I’ve been making lots of notes for myself lately.
One overriding goal I have is to make sure I don’t ‘run out of time’ at the end of each week.
Here are the things that are helping me to feel more ‘on top of things’.
None of them are ‘rocket science’.
Just common sense.
Having a shower in the evening saves time in the morning.
Take some time on Sunday to write out my schedule and main tasks for the week (I use a Leuchturm dotted journal instead of a diary).
Plan enough breaks on client days.
Plan enough exercise (nothing fancy, just walking, gardening and yoga).
Plan my lunches, and make sure I have something for my afternoon snack.
Make a note on a jotter pad during each appointment every time I promise to send a link etc. to a client.
Set aside time to go through those notes and send the links, as promised.
Tidy my desk and workspace at the end of the day and again at the end of the week.
Put away client files and take out the new ones for the following week so they are to hand on Monday morning.
Do a short review each day, and a longer one at the end of the week, making notes on what went well and what I have learned.
When I keep these things in mind, everything flows better, in my work and my life in general.
What are the common sense things that help your day go better?
Leave a comment here, I’d love to know.
