Hi, how are you?
This is a short update on a couple of things.
Thank you to everyone who wrote back in response to my last newsletter, telling me that I could purchase small white envelopes from Coin Collector websites! Who knew? 💌
The Ethics and Safeguarding webinar has had the early bird extended until the end of today. 🐦
Ethics and Safeguarding 🦺
Is this topic on your agenda?
Friday 12th December 10am - 2pm
£40 early bird
– ends today (Friday 5th November)
I plan my webinars a year in advance and at the start of 2021 Ethics and Safeguarding was not on my agenda.
But, things have changed.
This new webinar has come about after a series of conversations with a number of friends and colleagues where I realised that more of us were experiencing conflicts in a way that felt quite new.
When I spoke about this with a lawyer friend, I realised I needed to open my eyes to the fact that my safeguarding measures needed to be unlevelled.
I generally consider myself to be someone who is a good judge of character.
I don’t consider myself to be anxious, suspicious or paranoid.
But, I’ve realised my optimistic and positive outlook doesn’t mean that everyone I work with will be the same.
As this year comes to a close, I feel it’s a good time to step back, reflect and make changes that can safeguard my practice in the years to come.
What’s changed
As homeopaths we offer a professional, confidential, complementary health service by referral, and also to the ‘general public’.
The last year and a half has brought challenges for all of us in many ways.
Many of us had to shift our practices from face-to-face to online.
While this is more convenient in some ways, the world around us has continued to change.
Ethical issues such as confidentiality, consent and safeguarding have never been more important, not only between client and therapist, but within our profession as a whole.
There are many potential areas for misunderstandings and conflicts to arise.
As this year comes to a close, it’s a good time to step back, reflect and make changes ready for the new year.
The pandemic has brought increased stress and anxiety into wider society.
The internet gives greater access to information and an awareness of potential misinformation.
There’s been an increased interest in alternative health.
There is a trend in exploring and moving between multiple treatments.
There is an emerging trend in seeking ‘second opinions’.
In order to protect yourself, as well as your practice, you may need to have an increased awareness of:
Information needed when screening potential new clients
Information to provide before working with a new client
How to ensure you obtain fully informed consent
When you might need to wait before sending a prescription
What information to provide alongside remedies
A panel discussion
I’m delighted to welcome Caroline Gaskin and Robyn O’Reilly who will join me in exploring these topics and sharing their insights and expertise.
Robyn is a close friend, and as lawyer specialising in conflict resolution she has many valuable insights to share.
Seeing the world through the eyes of a lawyer is something I would rather not have to do, but I can see that it’s needed.
Robyn’s been kind enough to offer her time for this webinar to share her legal perspective on our work as homeopaths.
Together with Caroline Gaskin, an experienced homeopath with a great deal of wisdom to share, we offer you a reasoned discussion of ways to prevent potential conflicts with patients.
As always, there will be a clear set of notes provided following the webinar.
Friday 12th November`
