We are almost at the summer solstice, which means it’s halfway through 2024 already.
June also marks the beginning of the summer festival season, with Glastonbury Festival just around the corner.
I’ve been lucky enough to attend Glastonbury four times, as part of the Travelling Homeopaths Collective - working as part of an organised team offering low-cost homeopathy to festival goers.
You can read more about my experiences in my blog post Festival Reflections.
Thanks to their outreach work, hundreds of people try homeopathy for the first time at a summer festival.
Can you support the outreach work of the THC?
With a donation of £30, you have your practice details listed in the THC Companion (a kind of directory we use for referring people to a local homeopath).
If you’d like to set up a payment and share your practice details you can do that through this link.
The deadline for inclusion in the Travelling Homeopaths Companion is Thursday, 13th June.
Hayfever meltdown time 🤧
Here in London, it’s been a cool, wet spring, which always delays the start of the hay fever season.
Last week we saw a big pollen explosion and with that came a flurry of emails from people I support with hayfever.
Even though I’m experienced with treating hayfever with homeopathy it’s a little bit stressful if I’m honest.
Everyone I’m working with needs a different approach.
Here are a few of the hay fever cases I’ve prescribed in the last few weeks.
A 9-year-old boy was sent home from school crying with a severe headache. The GP said it was hay fever. His dad has recently started chemotherapy. I suggested Pulsatilla 30c as this had helped previously, and if it didn’t work after 24-48 hours, to try Ignatia 30c. (Ignatia has a surprising number of symptoms that match hay fever, as well as a headache from fright.)
A man who had successful treatment last year suddenly had lots of sneezing, itchy eyes and congestion. I suggested Nux Vomica 30c alternated with Helios Hayfever 30c every 2-3 hours. Nux Vomica is a brilliant remedy for hay fever in hard-working people who like to let their hair down at the weekend.
A woman who has a big flare-up in June every year. This year it was less severe but one day she had an important meeting so she took an antihistamine. This was soon followed by a heavy summer cold with aching legs and a flu-like feeling on top of her hay fever symptoms. I suggested Gelsemium 30c every 2-3 hours. Gelsemium is a great remedy for hay fever and summer colds that make the person feel heavy and sluggish, with aches and pains. I find it helpful after anti-histamines too.
The ‘over-the-counter’ remedies from Helios and Ainsworths are very helpful at this time of year.
Helios Hayfever 30c is a great go-to – with Allium Cepa, Euphrasia and Sabadilla it covers most symptoms.
Ainsworths Itchy Hayfever 30c is helpful when there is a lot of itching as it contains Wyethia, Arum, and Mixed Pollens as well as Allium Cepa.
New Era or Dr Schuessler Combination H is popular and I often prescribe it for children.
Quercetin supplements, especially Cytoplan Aller-G contain antioxidants helpful for reducing the allergic response.
I keep a list of everyone I treat for hayfever so I can encourage them to have allergy prevention during the winter season.
Do you have any summer hay fever tips or routines?
Have they evolved and changed over time?
Leave a comment, I’d love to hear from you and I promise to reply.
